Our selection of Video Surveillance systems always includes network connectivity at the DVR/NVR level so that  camera feeds can be easily watched on most  IP / network connected device and that recorded footage is easy to survey and deal with.

Advances in technology and emerging vendors now make it possible for high definition (HD) cameras at “old” CCTV price point for coax/twisted pair wiring or IP (over Ethernet). We typically do all our new installations and adds with Cat5/6 Twisted pair, regardless of technology, as this also gives more flexibility in the future for changes.

We primarily represent Costar Video & Ubiquiti Unified Video, although other vendors and cameras are used depending on the project and budget (Meraki, Dlink, OnSSI Ocularis)

High definition over coax technology emerged in the video surveillance market in 2010 as an alternative to analog and IP video surveillance solutions. HD over coax technology delivers high definition video and digital zoom capabilities by transmitting 720p or 1080p resolution over coaxial cable (up to 500m) or over twisted pair (up to 200m). HD over coax digital video recorders (DVR) offer “hybrid” or “tribrid” recording. Hybrid DVRs support the simultaneous connection of both analog and HD over coax cameras.

COST EFFECTIVE: This recording technology allows you to upgrade your existing analog system to HD without the need to replace all of the analog cameras. The overwhelming benefit of HD over coax technologies is the ability to transmit up to seven times more detail than the standard definition, 640 x 480 resolution, of an analog camera.

ET Series Digital Video Recorders provide 4, 8, or 16 channels of HD real-time recording and live display over existing coax cable with no need to rewire. iRAS incorporates features such as advanced event notification, map monitoring, system status monitoring and many more and is embedded in each Costar NVR. Remote access via free smart phone app compatible with Apple® and Android™ device.

While a Hybrid video solution may still be better for clients who are looking to upgrade their existing system and continue to use the same cabling, IP video systems are the future. With both the video feed and power over Ethernet (POE) being supplied over one Cat5/Cat6 cable and no need for a dedicated power box or DVR, IP video systems are easier to implement and require less hardware. The video feed from an IP camera can be stored on any shared network drive or NAS and accessed from anywhere in the world.
